A letter from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services can ask for documents, schedule an interview or change your benefits. Don't ignore it.

  1. 01

Open it right away and find the date it was sent.

  2. 02

Find the deadline. It is usually near the top or in a highlighted box.

  3. 03

Work out what kind of letter it is: a request for proof, an interview notice, an approval, or a denial or reduction.

  4. 04

Gather the documents it asks for.

  5. 05

Respond before the deadline by uploading in MI Bridges, or by following the instructions in the letter.

  6. 06

If you disagree with a decision, the letter explains how to ask for a hearing and how long you have.

  7. 07

Keep a copy of the letter and everything you send back.

This is a general guide. Screens and rules can change, so follow the instructions you see on the official site.
